Shanghai, Before and After

Today, at the Walt Disney Company’s Shareholder Meeting, a new rendering of Shanghai’s forthcoming castle was unveiled, revealing a changed concept from the concept art released a year ago.

Previously, “the largest Disney castle yet created” was to heavily be influenced by Walt Disney World’s Cinderella Castle and Herb Ryman’s design. Today, we can see that that design has been augmented to elongate the castle. So far, this castle does not bare a princess’ name, but goes by the moniker “Storybook Castle”, and there are plans to feature a boat ride inside it and it’s grounds.

The central hub, meanwhile, of Shanghai Disneyland, will be the largest yet built, prime space for water (notice the fountains) and pyrotechnic shows. This is in place of a Main Street USA , which the Chinese government nixed with cultural (and political…) sensibilities in mind.

Shanghai is currently set to open in 2015.
